To aid each cadet in academic and personal adjustment to Institute life, members of the faculty and staff serve as advisers to cadets. New cadets first meet with their advisers during Matriculation Week and continue to meet throughout the fourth class year. All cadets are urged to consult their advisers for assistance and advice at any time.
The VMI Academic Advising Program provides opportunities for new cadets to visit with their advisers individually or in groups to discuss any academic, extra-curricular or personal concerns. Cadets continue to consult the same adviser throughout the cadetship, unless a different degree program is selected. In addition, the Institute sponsors an Cadet Athlete Development Office to help scholar-athletes keep their focus on academics. For information about advising, contact Major Simone McKelvey, Associate Registrar for Advising Support, 301 Shell Hall.
To assist in the advising efforts, cadets and faculty advisers have real-time access to individual academic information thru the administrative Post View web interface. Click here to access Post View information and instructions.
