The Virginia State Science Fair, founded in 1985, started out with a little more than 100 projects and has grown considerably to include participants from 12 regions across the commonwealth, with Fauquier County a new addition in 2014.
Over 260 Virginia high school students participated in the 2015 Fair, presenting individually or in teams a total of more than 200 projects. More than 70 expert judges from higher education and businesses across the commonwealth volunteered their time.
2017 dates are March 24-25, 2017.
Programming for VSSEF will be held in Cameron Hall.

|6:00 - 8:00 pm||Registration and set-up at VMI Cameron Hall|
|1. Students must check in at registration desk. All payments and paperwork must be filed.|
|2. Students set up exhibits.|
|3. Exhibits must be approved by the VSSEF Display & Safety Committee before leaving.|

|8:00 am - 12:30 pm||Judges interview presenters for category and special awards.|
|Only presenters and judges are allowed in the exhibit area during judging.|

|1:00 pm||Announcement of Grand Prize nominees.|
|Nominees return to exhibits.|
|1:00 - 2:30 pm||Judges interview Grand Prize nominees.|
|2:30 - 4:00 pm||Exhibits open to the public.|
|4:00 - 5:30 pm||Award ceremony in Cameron Hall.|
|Finalists must attend the award ceremony to receive their awards.|
|Exhibits MAY NOT be dismantled during the ceremony.|
