Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering (tenure-track)

The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in the area of Geotechnical Engineering.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Civil Engineering, or a related discipline, and must have excellent teaching and communication skills.  Industry experience is preferred and professional registration, or the ability to obtain registration within two years of appointment, is required.  The appointments begin 1 August 2018.  

The department is ABET accredited in Civil Engineering and VMI is a public, four-year undergraduate military college for men and women (1700 students).  The successful candidates will be expected to teach a variety of basic engineering and junior and senior design courses, advise/supervise students, and engage in scholarly and/or professional activity.  Performance is evaluated on the basis of 1) teaching, 2) scholarly engagement, 3) professional citizenship, and 4) cadet development.  More information about VMI can be found at http://www.vmi.edu and a description of the academic program and faculty expectations can be viewed in the VMI Faculty Handbook.
