Beginning summer 2007, the department has instituted an “internship for credit” program. As an integral part of the department’s AACSB accreditation efforts, for the past three years the institute has funded a part-time internship coordinator position, dedicated solely to the EC/BU department and cadets. The result has been a marked increase in the number and quality of internships.
Taking the internship program a step further, this past winter the academic board approved the department’s proposal to give up to three credit hours in either economics or business to internships that meet particular academic standards. Overseen and approved by internship advisor Lt. Col. Bob Moreschi and department head Col. Floyd Duncan, qualifying internships must be rigorous in nature. Cadets are required to write a term paper and give a presentation to the department faculty.
Five cadets are participating this summer, at firms such as Ernst & Young and Owens & Minor.
