Rugby (Men's & Women's)

League: Virginia Rugby Union 

Women's Team

The VMI Women’s Ruby Club was initially formed in 2009 and is open to any female member of the Corps of Cadets. The team is member of the Virginia Rugby Union (VRU) and competes at the Women’s Collegiate Division II level as governed by USA Rugby. (Within USA Rugby Women’s Collegiate Rugby is considered an emerging NCAA Sport.) Other Division II teams within the VRU include University of Mary Washington, College of William and Mary, Longwood University, University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, and, Old Dominion University. VRU Divisional play is scheduled in the fall semester.  

The playoffs for the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union (MARFU) and USA Rugby National are scheduled in the spring semester each year. As a relatively new program VMI Women’s Rugby enjoys participation from an average of 10 percent of the female members of the Corps of Cadets.
