Who has access to wireless?
The VMI wireless network has been deployed using a “hotspot” methodology, which allows for general public access. This means that anyone with the appropriate equipment (i.e., a computer and wireless network card) can connect to the wireless network. Although anyone can connect, their capabilities are limited to web-browsing via HTTP and HTTPS and basic messaging services until they authenticate to the VMI network via the VMI Virtual Private Network (VPN) client. The wireless network is a completely separate network from the VMI wired network. No user can access internal VMI resources until they authenticate through the VPN. To find out more about how to obtain the VMI VPN client and connect using it, please refer to the document Virtual Private Network Install Guidelines.
Important note for VMI VPN users on the wireless network: You will need to change the destination address of the VPN client to 126.96.36.199 in order to connect. All other settings should remain the same.
