Charles S. Luck III '55
A member of the VMI Class of 1955, Charles S. Luck III joined Luck Quarries, Inc., the firm his father founded in 1923, after service in the U.S. Air Force. Luck held numerous positions in the company before becoming its president in 1965. After 30 years in that position, he became chairman of the board of Luck Stone Corporation as the company has been known since 1982.
Although closely involved in many professional, charitable and civic activities, Luck also has diligently served the Institute over many decades. He was a member the VMI Board of Visitors from 1970 to 1978, the VMI Foundation Board of Trustees from 1987 to 1995, the VMI Keydet Club Board of Governors from 1978 to 1981, and the VMI Alumni Association from 1965 to 1970. In 1997, the VMI Foundation presented its highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, to Luck.
