Brig. Gen. Robert L. Green '67
Deputy Superintendent for Finance, Administration and Support
A member of the VMI Class of 1967, Brig. Gen. Robert L. Green leads the Institute’s finance, administration and support programs. He oversees several offices at VMI including: Auxiliary Services, Comptroller, Facilities Planning and Physical Plant, Human Resources and Purchasing. Green returned to VMI as the acting director of Cadet Affairs in 1997 and served in this post until he was promoted to his current position in 2000. He received the VMI Achievement Medal in 2002.
Following his graduation from VMI, Green served as an assistant instructor for the Department of Civil Engineering. From 1969 to 1970, he served as a lieutenant with the First Combat Engineer Battalion, First Infantry Division in the Republic of Vietnam. After receiving his master’s degree in engineering from the University of Virginia in 1972, Green joined Wiley & Wilson in Lynchburg, Va., as a project engineer/manager and then as vice president. In 1987, he was promoted to president of Wiley & Wilson. That year Green returned to VMI for one year as a visiting professor of Civil Engineering and holder of the Wachtmeister Chair in Science and Engineering.
From 1998 until 2003, Green held the Fred C. Culpepper ’40 adjunct professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering and is a Professional Engineer.
