From time to time during one's cadetship, a cadet will need to use resources beyond those of his/her faculty and adviser. Here is a list of such contacts. These services are provided as other support services which are needed to achieve academic success:

The COL Mike E. "DOC" Monsour Center for Cadet Counseling
Center for Cadet Counseling aims to enhance each cadet's ability to benefit academically and personally from the VMI experience. It provides short-term counseling the focuses on addressing personal concerns that may impede current and future learning and personal development. Some areas include feelings of depression, loneliness, anxiety, stress, and substance abuse.

Chaplain's Office
The Institute Chaplain is the liaison officer to the local churches and is the point of contact for cadets' concerns of a religious or spiritual nature. The Chaplain along with the Commandant's staff provide assistance to cadets in need of an emergency furlough.

Office of Financial Aid
The purpose of the VMI financial aid program is to provide monetary assistance to cadets who, without such aid, would be unable to attend; and to provide aid to cadets with superior abilities. Awards are based on the cadet's demonstrated financial need as determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). Forms are available through local high schools and VMI Financial Aid Office.

Registrar's Office
The Registrar's Office is responsible for functions that include registration, transcript processing, academic standards review, cadet services and academic records management, course scheduling, degree certification and diploma processing, grading and evaluations, statistical reporting and support of ad hoc requests, and FERPA compliance.

Office of International Programs
The VMI Office of International Programs is tasked with the establishment, promotion, and administration of international exchange programs for both faculty and cadets. Programs include Military Exchange Programs, Study Abroad, Virginia Program at Oxford and International Internships.

Commandant's Office
The Commandant of Cadets, under the direction of the Superintendent, is responsible for the military training, appearance, and conduct of the Corps of Cadets (including discipline). The Commandant and his staff provide oversight to the barracks environment to include supervising the cadet regiment and class government organizations. The Commandant coordinates all phases of cadet life and scheduling to ensure cadets are present and fit for academic, military, and athletic duties.

Writing Center
The purpose of the Writing Center is to provide non-evaluative guidance to cadets who desire to improve their writing. The assistance is meant to complement academic activities and to extend the writing instruction that cadets receive in the classroom. Cadets may sign-up or walk-in for one-on-one tutoring outside of 323 Scott Shipp Hall.

NCAA Advising
NCAA advising provides mentoring, counseling, advising, academic assistance to athletes, and support for departmental academic advisors to enable VMI cadet athletes to maintain a balanced program in which they can excel athletically and academically.

Advanced Placement and Transfer Credit Prior to Admission **
VMI recognizes the College Board's Advanced Placement tests, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma and courses. For detail information concerning the requirements to academic credit, please see guidelines in the VMI Catalogue. Dual enrollment, attendance at other schools and VMI summer sessions' transfer credit is subject to approval of the appropriate curricular head. A minimum grade of C must be achieve to receive transfer credit.

VMI's Undergraduate Research Initiative was established to expand meaningful academic experiences for cadets via one-on-one interactions with faculty mentors to discuss, develop and complete research in a variety of venues.

VMI Infirmary
VMI provides medical services on 24 hours, 7 days a week while the Corps is in residence during the fall and spring semesters. Summer hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday during the summer.
