Sergeant Major Michael White serves as the Chief Military Science Instructor for the Virginia Military Institute. A native of Wadsworth, Ohio, SGM White enlisted in the Army and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Moore, Georgia where he trained as an Infantryman.

SGM White has served in all Infantry leadership positions from Team Leader to Sergeant Major. Additionally, SGM White served as a Drill Sergeant, Senior Drill Sergeant, Observer Coach – Trainer and Battle Staff Course Instructor.

SGM White’s assignments include the 10th Mountain Division, the 197th Infantry Brigade, the Joint Multinational Training Center, the 1st Armored Division, and the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence.

SGM White’s military and civilian education includes the Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Sergeants Major Academy (Class 74), Common Faculty Development – Instructor Course, Army Combative’ s level one and two, Antiterrorism Officers Basic Course, Army Drill Sergeant Academy, Air Assault School, and the Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officers Course. SGM White holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College and a master’s degree from Excelsior University.

SGM White’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Army Commendation Medal with V device, Army Commendation Medal (7), Army Achievement Medal (4), Drill Sergeant Identification badge, Basic Army Instructor Badge, Air Assault badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Additionally, SGM White is a recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice.
