Staff Sergeant Cortlin Woods serves as the Supply Non Commissioned Officer in charge (NCOIC) for Virginia Military Institute. A native of Alton, Illinois, SSG Woods enlisted into the Army on April 26th, 2011. He attended Basic at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia (formerly Fort Lee) where he trained as a Unit Supply Specialist.
SSG Woods has served as a Unit Armorer, Unit Supply Specialist, Supply NCO, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Senior Supply Sergeant and Battalion S4 NCOIC. He has deployed in support of Operation Spartan Shield and Freedom Sentinel.
SSG Woods has been assigned to the following units: 94th Brigade Support Battalion and 3-89 Calvary Squadron in Fort Polk, Louisiana. 25th Brigade Support Battalion and 2-8 Field Artillery Regiment in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.1st Medical Brigade 582nd Medical Logistics Company in Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) from which he deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar. 8th Military Police Brigade, 303D Ordnance Battalion (EOD) in Schofield Barracks Hawaii. He is currently assigned to the Army ROTC department at Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Virginia.
SSG Woods’ military and civilian education includes: Equal Opportunity Leaders course, Unit Prevention Leaders course, Combat Life Saver course, Unit Armorer course, Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced (PBUSE) course, Harris PRC-152A Operator’s course, Government Purchase Card Operating Procedures (GPC) course, Artic Warrior Supply course, Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-Army) course, Blue Force Tracker/Joint Capabilities Release course, Contracting Officer Representative (COR) course, Fire Warden Training course, Hazmat and Environmental Safety course, Warrior Leaders course, Advanced Leaders course. He has attained a Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) Certificate and Demonstrated Logistician Program (DL) Certificate. He is currently working on his degree in Supply Chain Management at American Military University.

SSG Woods married Mahogany McCauley of Chicago, IL in 2011. Together they have one son Cortlin-Thomas and two daughters Journee and Serenitee.
