Historic Grounds, Modern Purpose
VMI’s post consists of 59 buildings on 200 acres. It contains many buildings dating from the 19th century, is recognized as a national historic district, and Old Barracks is recognized as a national historic landmark.
The Institute blends its iconic design with modern facilities and technologies to support the college’s mission, the education and military training of an ever-expanding Corps of Cadets, and the needs of an engaged community of visitors from near and far.
Annual Events & Traditions
From the pageantry of military parades and celebration of VMI’s founding, to the bookmarks of a cadet’s journey from Matriculation to Graduation, members of the VMI community are able to witness what sets VMI apart from other colleges and universities. Cadets also enjoy a host of Corps and guest events that define a college experience across the nation including dances, Saturday football games with tailgating, and Family Weekend.
