Types of Aid

Scholarships and Grants

VMI offers both merit and need-based scholarships and grants. In most cases, applicants are considered automatically for need-based scholarships after submitting the VMI Statement of Educational Purpose and the FAFSA.

Merit scholarships, administered through the Dean's Office, require separate applications.

Merit Scholarships

ROTC & Outside Awards

ROTC scholarships are not offered directly through Virginia Military Institute, they must be applied for through their respective branches. Outside awards consist of aid from sources and agencies other than VMI.

It is incumbent upon the student to notify the Financial Aid Office of such awards.
