SFC Larry Aviles was born and raised in Bronx, New York. He received his GED at Finger Lakes Community College in 2006. Upon Graduating, he joined the United States Army out of Syracuse, NY where he attended Fort Benning for One Station Unit Training. Upon Completion of OSUT, he was awarded the MOS 11B. He was then assigned to the 25th Infantry Division.

Upon arriving to the 25th Infantry Division, SFC Aviles was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Shortly after arriving at the unit SFC Aviles deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Surge in 2007 as an M249 (Squad Automatic Weapon) Gunner for 15 months in the Baghdad area of Operations. Shortly after SFC Aviles re-enlisted and deployed again as a Fire Team Leader with the same unit for 12 months during Operation Iraqi Sovereignty and New Dawn in 2010 in the Diyala Area of Operations. SFC Aviles was then assigned to the 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade, and 2nd Infantry Division at Fort Lewis, Washington. After arriving SFC Aviles was then again deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Transition I as a Squad Leader for 9 months in the Panjwai District, Afghanistan. Following SFC Aviles’ third deployment, He was then assigned to The Lightning Academy, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 25th Infantry Division as a Jungle Survivor Instructor as the Army re-opened the infamous school. As an Instructor, SFC Aviles has deployed to train or teach in multiple countries around the world. Most notable are the French Foreign Legion “Caome Foga” in Gabon, Africa as a guest instructor, the Brazilian Jungle School “Guerra na Selva” as an instructor, the Marine Jungle Warfare Course in Okinawa, Japan, and many more. SFC Aviles was then assigned to the Army’s Recruiting Operations in Portland, Oregon where he enlisted over 40+ future Soldiers and participated in countless High School instructions to aid the Army in its Recruiting efforts. After Recruiting, SFC Aviles was then assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, and 101st Airborne Division as a Platoon Sergeant where he trained his Soldiers through 2x JRTC rotations, 3x guest OC, and multiple live fire exercises.

SFC Aviles’ Military education and certifications consist of Tactical Tracking Operations, Army Jungle Survival, Marine Jungle Warfare, Rappel Master, Air Assault, Army Basic Instructor, Medical Casualty Assistance, Army Recruiting Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Counter-Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device/ Electronic Warfare course, Spider M7 Munitions Course, Tactical Site Exploitation Course, Class 1 UAS course, Field Sanitation Course, Combat Lifesaver course, Combative level 1 Course, Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course. SFC Aviles was also awarded the Expert Infantryman Badge and Combat Infantry Badge.

SFC Aviles is married to Kathrine Aviles, they have two children: Christopher (9) and Athena Rose (5).
