Learning from the Best: Detachment 880 Cadets Travel to Hear CMSAF Wolfe
On Thursday, September 17, 2026, a select group of Detachment 880 cadets traveled to Virginia Tech’s Corps Lab for a unique professional development opportunity with Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force David R. Wolfe and his wife, Dr. Doniel Wolfe. Serving as the 21st CMSAF, Chief Wolfe represents the highest enlisted level of leadership and serves as the primary adviser to the Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Air Force.
Addressing a gathering of over 1,100 future military leaders, CMSAF Wolfe discussed the Air Force’s three core priorities: Readiness, Modernization, and Taking Care of Airmen and Family. He emphasized the importance of maintaining physical fitness standards for operational readiness, leveraging AI for modernization efforts, and actively checking in on one another. Dr. Wolfe also took the stage to highlight the vital role that spouses and families play, reminding the cadets that taking care of our people extends well beyond the service member to the families who stand behind them.
Representing VMI at this highly anticipated event were cadets K.A. Kemp (’27), T. Clanton (’28), A.J. Robles Rodriguez (’28), J.W. Niznik (’28), N.S. Scopac (’28), D.K. Sieu (’28), and A.J. Pohlman (’28). Hearing directly from top Air Force leadership provided this group with tremendous motivation and a clearer vision of the holistic impact they are preparing to make as they work toward their commissions.
