Formerly Homeschool Day, this event is open to all families seeking a day of fun, exploration, and learning. There will be hands-on activities for all ages. Join the Army and learn to drill, try dancing the Virginia Reel, enjoy 19th-century games and crafts, watch the Emmy-award winning film, Field of Lost Shoes, take a guided tour through the battlefield, learn 19th-century foodways and much more.
Visit our partner agency booths and pick up classroom information about Valley ecology, and history. Visit the General's Store for a great selection of books and other items to further your educational goals as well as souvenirs of your visit. Come and have fun for the day and make memories for a lifetime.

CANCELLED - Annual Reenactment, May 2021

Come and join us for the 156th Anniversary Battle of New Market Reenactment held on our original battlefield property, one of the oldest continual reenactments in the nation. Experience Civil War soldier life as you visit on-going demonstrations and living history presentations before and after the battle each day.
Walk in history's footsteps as you explore the sights and sounds of the Civil War with Artillery, Cavalry, Musket firing, Camp life, Medical Corps, and much more. Enjoy tasty treats from a variety of food vendors and shop for souvenirs on Sutler Row. Admission Fee: $10 for ages 10 and older, children ages 9 and under are free. Advance tickets are available by phone. Come experience the excitement for a day; memories for a lifetime.

Is your kid a history buff? Do they love hands-on learning? Are you looking for an economical, educational, and exciting opportunity for your child? All of these are great reasons to sign up for the Civil War Day Camp at the Virginia Museum of the Civil War. Open to boys and girls ages 7-12; this program has something for everyone. Each camp day will focus on a different theme. Find out what Civil War life was like for Confederate and Union soldiers, VMI Cadets and civilians on the home front. Play the games they played. Eat the food they ate. Drill as they did. Walk in history's footsteps at the Civil War Day Camp!

CANCELLED - Jacob Bushong’s Birthday Party, August 2021

Join our living historians as we celebrate the birthday of Jacob Bushong whose home stood at the center of the fighting during the Battle of New Market.
Explore 19th-century traditions and enjoy cake and ice cream, games, music, dancing and lots of fun. Walk in history's footsteps and discover what home life was like during the years before the Civil War rocked the nation. This event is free!
Spirits of New Market, October 23, 2021
6 - 9 p.m.
Step back in time with our annual lantern tour program, "Spirits of New Market," as we celebrate the indomitable spirit of those whose lives were impacted by the Battle of New Market. You'll follow your guide on a lantern-lit, tour of the Battlefield encountering living historians portraying the soldiers, townsfolk, and Bushong family. While interacting with the characters, you'll be able to lend aid to the wounded, ask questions and experience the Battlefield in a whole new way.
Cost is just $10 per adult, ages 13 and older
Youth are ages 6-12, and their tickets are $5
Children 5 and under are free
