Will the biology curriculum prepare me for entry into medical and dental school?
Yes. Approximately 25% of our majors go to medical or dental school.
What about preparation for other health professions?
Our majors enter programs in pharmacy, nursing, physician assistant, physical therapy, forensics, and health administration.
What can I do with a biology degree if I don’t want to go to graduate school?
A third of our majors commission first before making a career decision.
How do I get scholarship help?
Many of our majors are supported through:

- Merit scholarships
- Student aid assistance
- Work study program support
Do I have to take calculus as a biology major?
No. Unless you are on a Navy scholarship, you can take MA106 Probability and Statistics and MA126 Quantitative Methods.
Can I be an athlete and study biology?
Yes. We have majors that represent most of the NCAA sports at VMI. Many of our majors use summer coursework or research programs to lighten their semester course loads.
