VMI Community Updates

Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the VMI community at-large:

  • The latest edition of the Institute Report is now available. Learn more about events and happenings on post, including Breakout, the 7th Annual Commonwealth Cyber Fusion event, guest speakers, and a look back at selfless service as part of the celebration of 50 years of the IR.
  • Important FAFSA Updates: The Department of Education has notified schools that they have begun processing FAFSA applications. Over the next few weeks, applicants (prospective students) and current students (cadets) should have access to the 'FAFSA Submission Summary'. This will be available to view at studentaid.gov and an email will also be sent directly to each user regarding its availability. Visit the FAFSA Updates page for additional information and answers to frequently asked questions.
  • Keydet athletes will continue to compete over spring furlough. Find a full schedule of events on the VMI Athletics website to stay up to date with spring sports, including water polo, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and track & field.

Help make the Chessie Trail #1!

VMI's seven-mile, year-round public access walking trail between Lexington and Buena Vista is a nominee for the USA Today 10 Best Readers' Choice awards for best recreational trail. You can vote once per day. Polls close on Monday, April 8 at noon. The 10 winners, determined by popular vote, will be announced on Wednesday, April 17.

Honors Week: A Look into VMI Recruiting Efforts

Adam Hoffman '24 presented his thesis “Virginia Military Institute Recruiting: How Cadets found their Way Here” during Honors Week. He saw that VMI had a hard recruiting season for the Class of 2026. His research was aimed to look at the effectiveness of past resources in recruiting.

New Gen. Marshall Exhibit Opens at VMI Museum

The VMI Museum has opened a new exhibit on the life and career of Gen. George C. Marshall, VMI Class of 1901, following renovations to the Kohen Gallery of the Citizen-Soldier.

Annie Townsend '24 blended her interest with history, architecture, and security to form her senior thesis, “A Security Analysis of the Virginia Military Institute’s Barracks through the Lens of Infrastructure," which she presented during Honors Week at Virginia Military Institute.

Earlier this month, a rank announcement ceremony was held on post, introducing the leaders of Institute's 185th Regiment. Get to know the cadets who have been selected to lead the Corps during the 2024-2025 academic year.
