Significant financial support is available through VMI’s ROTC program. Incoming scholarship cadets who maintain satisfactory academic and disciplinary standing may receive an annual stipend.
These scholarships cover tuition and may also include allowances for books and fees and living expenses. ROTC scholarships offer opportunities to obtain leadership positions in the armed forces upon graduation. ROTC scholarships are not administered through VMI but rather through the awarding military branch.
Two or three years of ROTC scholarship assistance may be available after the first or second year of enrollment at VMI. A two-year program is also available to students who transfer to VMI after their sophomore year.
Army ROTC - Army ROTC scholarships pay tuition and auxiliary fees. It is awarded on merit, based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and personal interviews. Air Force ROTC - Air Force ROTC provides students with valuable leadership skills and friendships that will last a lifetime. In addition, AFROTC offers money to pay for school with scholarships including $900 a year for books, as well as spending money.
And best of all, you’ll have the opportunity to land a leadership position in the U.S. Air Force right out of school. Your future could begin right here, right now.
Naval ROTC - You may start the process of applying during the second semester of your junior year of high school. Students may apply for only one of the three scholarship program options-Navy, Nurse or Marine Corps. Before the application can be finalized and forwarded for selection consideration, you must ensure that a copy of your complete transcript, including your entire junior year, is forwarded to your recruiter.
VMI showed me the importance of daily leadership by example, and I’ve been able to directly transfer those lessons into action as a Marine officer.
