At first, I was hesitant to apply for the Marshall Scholarship – partly because it was one more thing to juggle amid a heavy academic load and serving on the Regimental staff, and partly because I didn’t think I’d be remotely competitive. But I am so thankful for the faculty and staff who encouraged me to apply, helped me tell my story, and mentored me throughout the application process. In retrospect, it was well worth the effort. I loved every minute of living in the UK, conducting serious research, and meeting incredible, world-class people along the way.
