Boonshoft Featured on 'With Good Reason'

LEXINGTON, Va. June 26, 2026 — Lt. Col. Mark Boonshoft, assistant professor in the Department of History at Virginia Military Institute and the holder of the Conrad M. Hall ’65 Chair in American Constitutional History, is featured on “Stories for the Semiquincentennial,” an episode of the public radio program, “With Good Reason,” that starts June 27. The show airs on 136 radio stations in 36 states.

On the show, Boonshoft talks about his forthcoming book, “The Violent Origins of Constitutional Democracy in Revolutionary New York.” He shares how ideals that came from the Revolutionary War, like representative government and liberty, didn’t always make their way into state constitutions. Others on the show, including Tom Ewing from Virginia Tech and Ervin Jordan from the University of Virginia, discuss the spirt of the Bikecentennial held in 1976 and the lessons learned for this 250th celebration, as well as remarkable journeys of enslaved people documented during the Revolutionary War.

“With Good Reason” is sponsored by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Local broadcast times, as well as audio files of full programs and companion news features, are on the “With Good Reason” website.
