VMI Community Theatre to Hold Auditions
LEXINGTON, Va. Aug. 25, 2025 — The VMI Community Theatre will hold auditions for its fall show, “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” Monday, Sept. 8; Tuesday, Sept. 9; Wednesday, Sept. 10; and Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7:45 p.m. in Gillis Theater located in Marshall Hall on post. Cadets and community members may audition any of the four evenings. Multiple adult male and adult female roles will be cast. In addition, there is one role for a school-aged girl. Those interested in auditioning should come prepared to cold-read from the provided script. Stage crew members are also needed. No experience is necessary for either actors or stage crew.
After “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” Douglas Adams went on to create Dirk Gently, a detective with a belief in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things, a unique relationship with the laws of probability, and a love of cats and pizza. In “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” Dirk finds himself on the trail of a gruesome murderer who is somehow involved with the works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, quantum physics, and the enigmatic study of the Cambridge professor of chronology. Ultimately, the stakes of the case are far greater than a single murder, but go to the fate of life on Earth. Confused? Don’t be, everything is connected.
Performances of “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14 through Sunday, Nov. 16. Rehearsals will be held Monday through Thursday 7:45-9 p.m., beginning Sept. 15. Specific nights will be determined after casting. For additional information, email the director, Tim Price at pricetr@vmi.edu.
