Academic Advising

Upon entry into VMI, each cadet is assigned an academic advisor.  Throughout their cadetship, advisors guide cadets through the exploration and clarification of their academic, career and life goals; the development of skills and strategies that will contribute to academic success; and the mastery of a balanced engagement in co-curricular and academic activities.

For more advising information, please visit VMI Academic Advising.

New cadets (Rats) first meet with their advisors during the orientation period and continue to meet biweekly until mid-March. Cadets are urged to consult their advisors for assistance and advice at any time. The New Cadet Advising Program provides opportunities for new cadets to visit with their advisors individually or in groups to discuss any academic, extra-curricular or personal concerns.  In addition, the Institute sponsors an Athletic Academic Advising Program to help scholar-athletes keep their focus on academics.

To assist in the advising efforts, cadets and faculty advisors have real-time access to individual academic information through the administrative Post View web interface. Go to Post View for information and instructions.
