Upcoming Meetings

There are three regular meetings of the Board each year. Specific dates for regular meetings are set by the Secretary of the Board upon consultation with, and the concurrence of, the President of the Board and the Superintendent. The Board’s last regular meeting of the academic year is designated as its Annual Meeting.

Special meetings of the Board may be called by the President of the Board, the Superintendent, by a majority vote of the Executive Committee, or by the request of a majority of the members of the Board.

VMI Board of Visitors Meeting

Location: Virginia Military Institute (VTC Meeting)

The VMI Board of Visitors will hold a public meeting on Thursday, 15 April 2021 beginning at 10:00 a.m. via video teleconference at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. The board will meet for the purpose of notifying the public of their intent to vote on the selection of the next Superintendent of the Institute.

The Board of Visitors will receive public comments only on matters pertaining to the meeting between 10:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., 15 April 2021. Individuals must pre-register and will need to provide the following information via email: name, email, phone number, VMI affiliation, (e.g. cadet, faculty member, employee, alumni, parent, or member of the public), and request for any reasonable accommodations. The deadline for pre-registration is 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, 14 April 2021. Please note in the subject line that you are registering to speak during the public comment. Registration requests should be sent to Lt Col Sean Harrington at harringtonsp@vmi.edu. You may also call (540) 464-7132 with any questions.

Should you have any interruption with the video broadcast of the meeting, please contact the VMI Communications and Marketing office at (540) 464-7207. Speakers will proceed in the order of pre-registration and should be entered into the meeting at 10:00 a.m. to facilitate meeting operations. Speakers will be limited to three (3) minutes apiece. Every effort will be made to accommodate all speakers within the time constraints of the meeting.


 

VMI Board of Visitors Meeting

Public Notice - 30 Mar 2021 - Full BOV

The Virginia Military Institute Board of Visitors is conducting a meeting on 30 April to 1 May 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. Virginia Military Institute business will be discussed by the members in attendance.

Note: The Virginia Military Institute Board of Visitors is expected to take action on tuition and mandatory fees for all cadets at its 1 May 2021 meeting.

  • The Board will consider tuition increases for in-state cadets ranging from 0% to 3.0%. Fee increases, which support a mix of academic and non-academic support services, are projected to increase between 0% to 3.5% for in-state cadets. Comprehensively, tuition and fees increases for in-state cadets are expected to be less than 3%.
  • The Board will consider tuition increases for out-of-state cadets ranging from 0% to 3.5% and fee increases, which support a mix of academic and non-academic support services, between 0% to 3.5% for out-of-state cadets.
    Revenue generated from tuition and fee increases, in combination with other revenues and reallocated funds, may be used to address personnel costs, including the Institute’s share of state mandated salary, fringe benefits, and health insurance cost increases, enhancements to academic programs, and other institutional initiatives.

Section 23.1-307 (D) (E) of the Code of Virginia requires that 30 days prior to approval of each year's tuition and mandatory fees, the Boards of Visitors of Virginia's higher education institutions announce the range of increases under consideration and the proposed use of any incremental revenue.

Public Comment: The public can sign up to speak at the public comment session by contacting Lt Col Sean Harrington at (540) 464-7132 (harringtonsp@vmi.edu) no later than 4:30 p.m. on 27 April 2021. Each speaker is limited to three minutes and are requested to limit their comments to tuition and fees. A written copy of the comments is requested, but not required. Anyone who has not signed up to speak by the deadline may sign-in at the public comment session, and if time permits, they will be given an opportunity to speak.

Written comments may also be submitted up until 4:30 p.m. on 27 April 2021. Copies of the public comments will be provided to all Board members for review prior to any decision regarding tuition and fees.
