VMI’s employer relations program offers flexible options—whether you’d like to host information sessions, conduct on-campus interviews, or create a customized recruiting schedule tailored to your organization’s goals.

Handshake

All VMI cadets have a Handshake account from their first semester through one year post-graduation. Employers are strongly encouraged to share relevant job and internship postings through Handshake for increased visibility and engagement with our students.

Internships

Summer internships are a great option for Cadets seeking professional experience. Internships come in variety of forms such as fully remote/hybrid/full in-person, 4 week / 8 week / 10 week durations, hourly/stipend pay, with/without housing options. Our hope is that alumni and a wide variety of employers will offer gratifying and educational opportunities for VMI Cadets. We are now posting internship opportunities on Handshake.

Employers can also share about internship opportunities at Career & Internship Fairs, through our social media channels, and through tabling with our Workforce Wednesday series. Recruiting and Interviewing on Campus (Post)

Employers are invited to recruit for full-time positions and internships on Post throughout the academic year:

  • Fall semester - October through mid-November
  • Spring semester - February through April

VMI currently hosts two Career & Internship Fairs each academic year; one during the fall semester and one in the spring semester. 

The next Career & Internship Fair will be held on February 11, 2026 in Marshall Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Registration is now open through November 22nd on Handshake. Employer Registration Link.

Principles for Employment Professionals

Employers are encouraged to follow the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Practice in all recruiting activities with Virginia Military Institute.
