Executive Administrative Assistant- Center of Leadership and Ethics

Virginia Military Institute is accepting applications for a full-time office administrator for the Center for Leadership and Ethics.  VMI’s Center for Leadership and Ethics educates, engages and inspires the VMI Corps of Cadets, Faculty and Staff in leadership and character development and shares insights gleaned from the VMI programs with a broader national audience. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the Center for Leadership and Ethics’ staff.
  • Maintain the facility usage scheduling.
  • Coordinate Center’s instructional requirements for each staff member.
  • Assist with the planning and execution for conference and symposia.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Maintain confidentiality, good judgment and discretion in all areas of work.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team or individual environment.
  • Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, listening).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of higher education database platforms, Canvas and Colleague. 
  • Knowledge of audio-visual and technology system set up or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to compose and prepare correspondence and complete reports and forms.
  • Available to work evening and select weekends when needed.

Additional Qualifications:

  • College level coursework, especially in accounting and business, or equivalent applicable experience or training.

  • Ability to work independently in a team environment, take ownership of the resolution of problems, be flexible and accountable, manage conflicting responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrative staff, and students in a higher education environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to follow through independently.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, listening).
  • Ability to travel with the Cadets for various events.
  • Proven success with managing multiple projects concurrently while meeting deadlines.

Physical

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, typing, walking, marching, standing, hiking.
  • Visual acuity to use a keyboard, extensive reading.
