Computer Science Faculty (Tenure Track)

The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Department of Computer and Information Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position. Qualified applicants at the assistant, associate or full professor levels will be considered.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate computer science courses at all levels. Additional responsibilities include advising students, engaging in scholarship, mentoring students in undergraduate research and serving on institute committees. Current faculty specialties include cybersecurity, software engineering, information technology, database systems, artificial intelligence, internet of things, and mobile computing.  Candidates with specialty in cybersecurity will be ideal and may have preference. All specialties are welcome and encouraged to apply.  Experience with teaching in, or operation of, a security operations center (SOC) a plus.

The standard teaching load for tenure track faculty is 9 teaching credits each semester (typically three class sections with two preps).  The department is well equipped with servers, security operations center (SOC), and research labs, and provides significant support in securing grants, publishing, and other scholarly activities offering a fertile development environment to establish and fulfill a research agenda. 

The appointment will begin August 1, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The position requires a Ph.D. in computer science, cybersecurity, or closely related field.

Candidates with a Master’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or closely related field may be considered for a full-time non-tenure track position.

  • Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching, including the ability to mentor undergraduates in research projects, and have an ongoing plan of scholarly activity.
