Update from VMI Financial Aid - The previous issue has been resolved and financial aid data is now available in Post View.

Chessie Trail

The Chessie Nature Trail will remain open to the public as long as government guidelines on social distancing and prohibitions on gatherings are being observed.

For the safety and well-being of the community:

  • Groups of 10 or more people are prohibited. This means if a trailhead is particularly crowded when you arrive, come back at a time when it is less so.
  • Anyone who is sick or exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19 is prohibited from using the Chessie Nature Trail.
  • While on the trail, alert others to your presence and show respect to other visitors by stepping aside to let people pass at a safe distance.
  • Due to the fact that most VMI employees are working from home or on leave in accordance with social distancing guidelines, regular trail maintenance is not occurring during this time. It is important that all trash and pet waste be properly cleaned up.

The Chessie Nature Trail is a seven-mile, year-round public access walking trail between Lexington and Buena Vista, located along the former Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad right of way.

VMI occasionally uses the trail for cadet marches. The trail remains open to the public during these times. Local community groups are encouraged to hold walks or meetings on the trail.  Please contact the VMI Physical Plant at (540) 464-7358 to coordinate your event.
