Academic Support
MAC Peer Tutoring Program and Group Study Sessions (GSS)
We are excited to offer both peer tutoring and group study sessions for many core curriculum courses as well as some major-specific courses. Peer tutoring is scheduled by appointment, and group study sessions (GSS) are held weeknights at 2000.
College Success Series Workshops
The College Success Series is a program that provides cadets with the opportunity to learn strategies to be successful at VMI. Cadets can sign up for individual workshops or the entire series. Each session is 30 minutes and will be held multiple times each week to increase participation opportunities.
MAC Cadet Academic Recovery (CAR) Program
The Cadet Academic Recovery (CAR) program is an academic support plan for cadets on Academic Probation that is designed to help them identify areas for improvement and develop effective academic and time-management skills. Cadets on academic probation are required to participate in the program, and they will meet with an Academic Support Coordinator at the MAC who will work with them to develop a personalized plan for academic improvement. This plan will likely include some combination of regular check-in appointments, attendance at College Success Series Workshops, Group Study Sessions (GSS), and peer tutoring, use of a daily planner to keep track of obligations, exams, and due dates, and the use of the many academic support resources available on post (the MAC, Writing, Center, Math Resource Center, Library, professors’ office hours, etc.).
Academic Saturday Training (Primarily for 4th Class cadets, but others are invited to attend)
Each session covers a topic related to cadet success. Please contact Capt. Tyree at tyreeks@vmi.edu for dates and additional details.
