The Biology Department at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at any rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) depending on prior experience. VMI is a small, highly rated undergraduate institution with a strong emphasis on teaching and a deep commitment to supporting undergraduate research.
We are seeking a passionate teacher-scholar who will expand and complement the department’s existing areas of expertise. The successful candidate will teach introductory biology courses as well as upper-level courses in their area of specialization. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in anatomy and physiology, developmental biology, or toxicology.
In line with VMI’s mission to provide a rigorous undergraduate education, the selected candidate is expected to maintain an active research program that involves undergraduate students. The Institute provides competitive support for research, including funding for travel, equipment maintenance, and start-up costs.
Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in biology or a related field and demonstrated experience teaching undergraduates. Postdoctoral training is desirable but not required. Military experience is not required; however, faculty members are expected to wear uniforms during the academic year. The position begins on August 1, 2026.
